There are probably lots of different insights to take from this quote, but something that really struck me is how important stories can be. I think that most of us have stories that were read to us as kids, and then we go on to re-read occasionally throughout our lives. And each time you read it again, it reinforces and re-informs who you are a little bit.
As a kid's book writer, I love the idea of contributing that sort of thing to the world. No idea where my career will go, but I hope to make something that people can revisit throughout their lives.
How I see it, children are just miniature adults (or adults overgrown children, either one) and we crave meaning in our lives from day one. Anything that we find meaning in will become a reference point from then on. Stories have an incredible role to play in who we become, and I think C.S. Lewis said it best here.
